Inputs coming into a cell by a signaling pathway are redirected in ways that are influenced by other signaling inputs. This gives rise to a large number of cell states. We have no rule book telling how the system works as a whole. To get actionable information about such systems, we combine the knowledge of features having a clear relationship to physiology with results from drug treatment. Our aim is to enable investigators to learn how the regulation of these features is relevant to drug development.
